Call for Side Events during 2025 GRC Annual Meeting

The Global Research Council invites proposals for side events to the 2025 Annual Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

On behalf of the Research, Development & Innovation Authority (RDIA), the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBITAK), co-hosts of the 2025 GRC Annual Meeting, the GRC Executive Secretariat invites GRC participant organisations to submit proposals for side events.

Background

Side events are workshops or round table discussions that are organised before the GRC Annual Meeting and focus on topics that the host(s) of the side event suggest. They are separate events from the Annual Meeting and, therefore, are not part of the main programme. All GRC participating organisations are invited to the side events and they may also be opened to other guests. Participation in the GRC Annual Meeting, on the other hand, is by invitation only and targets a reduced circle of participants.

Logistics

The side events will take place during the week of the Annual Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dates available for these events are 18 and 19 May 2025. The proposing organisations are responsible for organising the side event, which includes its preparation and management during the event. While the hosts will provide the location for the event and integrate relevant information in the communication with Annual Meeting participants, other (logistical) support during the event will be limited.

Topics

Side events should either compliment the topics of the current GRC cycle, or align to the 2026 topics. Please also consider the potential interest of the event among GRC participants and the wider international community.

Current GRC cyle topics

  • Research Management in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
  • Working Together in Co-creation to Address Global Challenges

2026 GRC topics

Building on the 2024 Annual Meeting topic ‘Sustainable Research’ and considering it in conjunction with other topics (open science, science communication, transdisciplinary research, multilateral collaboration, and so on) and the continued exploration of the Climate Change theme from the 2023 Annual Meeting and its repercussions on vulnerable populations.

Application requirements

Only GRC participating organisations are invited to submit proposals to host a side event. Collaboration with external partners is welcomed (e.g. as speakers, panelists).

The number of side events is limited to eight. Organisations interested in hosting a side event are strongly encouraged to liaise with other GRC participating organisations on the possibility of merging proposals.

To propose a side event to the 2025 Annual Meeting, please complete the application form and email it to grc@ukri.org by no later than 30 November 2024.

Information on approved side events will be sent by the Executive Secretariat in late February/early March 2025.

For further information, please email grc@ukri.org.
