Biography

Prof. Anicia Peters is the CEO of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology in Namibia. She is the Chairperson-elect for the Sub-Saharan Science Granting Councils Alliance (SGCI) for 2027.

She obtained a PhD in Human Computer Interaction from Iowa State University and Executive Education in Business at Stanford University in the United States of America. Her undergraduate degrees are from Polytechnic of Namibia.

Prof. Peters has over 30 years of experience across academia, boards, private sector and government with international experience in among others in Angola, Kenya, South Africa, United Kingdom, Germany and the United States.

She was the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Namibia (UNAM) and Executive Dean at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Board positions include the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). She served as Chairperson of the Namibia Presidential Task Force on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and a member of the inaugural Technical Committee on Green Hydrogen in the Office of the President.  She also served on the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) Presidential Task Force for Regional Offices and Global Engagement Board.

Prof. Peters led the establishment of several institutes/centers and the development of national strategies and policies such as e-Health, e-Government Procurement, Bioeconomy, Artificial Intelligence, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems. She also developed large scale government digital systems such as government financial systems and e-health in collaboration with WHO.

Prof. Peters has received several international awards from entities such as ACM SIGCHI, Google, Boeing, Green Technology Innovation Awards and Namibia Business Hall of Fame.
